Unlike last year, there was no rain at this year’s Golf Classic, so we were already off to a good start. More than 255 people participated in our 24th annual Golf Classic and helped us raise $150,000 to support students in our Workforce Prep program. The outing was held at the historic Indianwood Country Club on Monday, September 12, 2022.

After a smooth check-in and delicious breakfast, golfers brought their smiles to the golf carts, but not before bringing the sun with them. This was just the beginning of our good fortune. A representative from Bose won our 50/50 raffle and generously donated all their prize money back to us.
Golfers participated in a variety of fun on-course contests including closest to the pin, longest drive, and a hole-in-one to win a Chevy Blazer or Silverado donated by Hamilton Chevrolet in Warren. Contest winners included:
- New course closest to pin: Jeff Lundgren, AEM Group
- Old course closest to pin: Jared Petrill, A-Line Staffing Solutions
- New course longest drive men: Michael Ryan, Lear Corporation
- New course longest drive women: Lori Doughty, AT&T
- Old course longest drive men: Kyle Spink, Target Steel
- Hole-in-one: no winners, although one golfer was within 6 inches of driving home in a new Blazer

After a day on the links, golfers enjoyed a tasty ribs and chicken dinner while networking and sharing tales of who had the best (and worst) shot. Many purchased raffle tickets for the chance at winning some amazing prizes including: Red Wings suite tickets; Tigers Champion Club tickets; Bose Bluetooth speakers; Bosch power tools; HARMAN Kardon Allure speakers; gourmet wine baskets; and a 50-inch smart television.
Lear Corporation is our program presenting sponsor. Dale Lammers, vice president of global seating purchasing and supply chain at Lear and co-chair of the outing said, “Lear has a history of supporting the communities in which we are located and is a proud partner with Winning Futures to provide opportunities to the young people in the Detroit area. The event was very successful again this year, and we very much appreciate all the contributions from the sponsors and participants.”
Next year’s Golf Classic will be extra special as it will be the 25th anniversary of our outing. The event is typically attended by senior executives from the automotive and related industries. Foursomes are available through sponsorship. For more information, contact Daniela Matthews at Daniela@WinningFutures.org or 586-371-2125.
