2026 Golf Social Drives Nearly $350,000 for Students

Our 28th annual golf event, The Golf Social, was a record-setting success, proving once again that when our community comes together for students, everyone wins.

More than 400 guests joined us on September 10 at Topgolf in Auburn Hills for an afternoon of golf, networking, and giving back. Together, our sponsors and guests raised more than $300,000 to support students in our seven-year Workforce Prep Mentoring Program.

The event was co-chaired by Sham Kunjur, Executive Director of Industrialization at General Motors, and Ajoy Unnikrishnan, Vice President of Global Purchasing at Lear. Frank Orsini, Executive Vice President and President of Seating at Lear, served as Honorary Chair.

With many senior business executives in attendance, The Golf Social provided plenty of opportunities to make connections both on and off the tee. The afternoon began with a VIP reception before guests headed to the bays for golf, friendly competition, and our Topgolf Tournament. A silent auction added to the excitement, while a dinner buffet gave everyone another opportunity to connect, catch up, and perhaps compare a few questionable golf scores.

But the biggest win of the day had nothing to do with who finished at the top of the leaderboard.

“Nearly $350,000 raised in one afternoon is an incredible accomplishment, but what excites me most is what those dollars will make possible for our students,” said Kris Marshall, President and CEO. “Every sponsor, every guest, and every person who supported this event is helping young people develop the skills, relationships, and plans they need to build successful careers and futures. We are incredibly grateful.”

The 2026 event represents another big step forward for The Golf Social. What began a few years ago as a new approach to our traditional golf outing has quickly grown into one of our largest opportunities to bring business leaders together around a shared commitment to Metro Detroit students.

To everyone who sponsored, attended, golfed, bid, donated, and helped make the day possible, thank you for taking a swing for our students. You helped us hit this one a long way.
