Project Pinstripe and Winning Futures help students dress for success.
Mentees from Winning Futures along with other young men from Detroit and surrounding areas gathered at YouthVille in Detroit’s New Center area on March 28, 2015 to receive a free suit and valuable job coaching.
Project Pinstripe is a not-for-profit organization managed by Tom James devoted to building a positive self-image for young adults by providing properly-fitted business attire and career education.
The suits and ties were donated by local businessmen then fitted by Tom James’ haberdashers, altered, and cleaned for each participant. A lesson in tying a half-Windsor knot was also on the agenda so the participants left feeling confident to walk into any interview.
Motivational speakers ,Winning Futures staff and other business professionals were onsite to offer valuable advice and interviewing strategies. The young men were encouraged to pursue their career goals in pathways such as neurology, engineering, mathematics, and political science. Going along with the theme of dressing for success the speakers focused on the importance of first impressions.
This year marks the 10th annual Project Pinstripe event and it continues to grow each year thanks to the success and help from community partners and sponsors.
