When Lori was a student at Warren Mott High School, she didn’t have a plan for her future, and her grades were slipping. It wasn’t until she joined the Winning Futures program her senior year that she began to understand the importance of education. Her mentor and program facilitator, Laurie Tarter, gave her the accountability she needed to create a plan and stick to it. With weekly check-ins and support, Lori graduated high school and attended Macomb Community College on a track scholarship. Lori graduate with an associate degree in 2000 in criminal justice. Today she works as a financial analyst at Kelly Services, is a Winning Futures mentor, and is working towards a bachelor’s degree in human resources from Ashford University.
“Winning Futures taught me the importance of continuously setting goals,” said Lori. “I thought getting a bachelor’s degree at this point in my life was out of reach. I set it as a five-year goal at a recent mentor training, which lead me to do some research and realize how attainable it really was!”
