Alumnus Jaylin Golson recently shared how the Winning Futures program has impacted him, “Winning Futures showed me the importance of hard work and staying focused.” Jaylin is a sophomore at Grand Valley State University majoring in Multimedia Journalism with a minor in Computer Science.
Jaylin says that the Winning Futures lesson that has helped him the most is the Attitude is Everything lesson. “I was told that life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you respond to it. Since completing Winning Futures, I’ve interned for two ABC Network companies in Grand Rapids: ESPN3 and WZZM/ABC News – Grand Rapids. I know that maintaining a positive attitude everyday played a role in me securing and excelling at both companies.”
“I appreciate that my mentor, Dylan Tanka, gave me real life stories of how the world works and the importance of networking. My ability to interact comfortably with others has played a vital role in my success.” Jaylin attributes his continual growth and success to not allowing his core values – respect, hard work, integrity, and staying humble – to waiver. Examining and understanding character values are an important component of the Winning Futures program.
We are proud that our program has influenced Jaylin’s success.
