Winning Futures staff and mentors had an opportunity to participate in several planning sessions with Mentor Michigan and MENTOR, the National Mentoring Partnership, to help design a Black Male Achievement curriculum. Detroit was one of 5 cities selected to help draft this unique curriculum.
The Open Society Foundation founded Black Male Achievement to help reduce barriers facing black men and boys across the United States. The curriculum is based on best practices and will cover issues relating to fatherhood, mentoring, college preparatory programs, community-building, supportive wage work opportunities, communications, and philanthropic leadership.
Winning Futures was honored to join Mentor Michigan and MENTOR in this exciting and critical initiative. Not only will Winning Futures be a part of the planning session, we will also help review the pilot training program before it is replicated across the nation.
The program will begin as early as 2015.
