The day started great. 260 golfers convened at Indianwood Country Club in Lake Orion for some golf, networking, and a whole bunch of fun while raising support for students in our Workforce Prep program.

Guests started arriving by 8:30 a.m. After checking in, getting their complimentary dozen premium golf balls, and loading up with snacks and drinks for the course, many ventured to the putting green or driving range to fine tune their swings, while others convened in the cart corral for catching up with friends and connecting with others.
Everything was going well until 2 p.m. That’s when things got soggy. A rainstorm rolled through, drenching the course and bringing a quick end to the day’s golf. But that wouldn’t stop our guests from making the most of a special day with a special purpose.
With magic-like skill, our staff worked with the Indianwood crew to expedite dinner. By 3 p.m., all guests were in the comfy and dry confines of Indianwood’s ballroom and enjoying a hearty BBQ dinner including ribs, chicken, pasta, and cornbread.
Rain soaked from head to toe, our guests proved that their positive attitudes would never interfere with some good fun for a good cause. Here’s what some guests said:
“Great opportunity to network and enjoy an event outside.”
“Awesome people, support, and a great cause.”
“I enjoyed meeting people and re connecting with the Winning Futures Staff.”
At the end of the day, while most were soaked to the bone and golf ended early, all smiled knowing that their participation helped raise $125,000 in support of our students.
Next year’s Golf Classic will be held on Monday, September 12, 2022, at Indianwood Country Club. The event is typically attended by senior executives from the automotive and related industries. Foursomes are available through sponsorship. For more information, contact Daniela Matthews at Daniela@WinningFutures.org or 586-371-2125.
P.S. We’re putting our order in now for good weather in 2022!
