Shirley Russell joined our team in late July as our new classroom assistant. She brings with her more than 30 years of education-related experience including the Harper Woods School District where she taught, engaging students in hands-on science and STEM activities, and as a member of the Ferndale School District Board of Education. As our new classroom assistant, Shirley will support our Workforce Prep mentoring sessions at Pontiac Academy for Excellence and Southfield High School for the Arts and Technology.
“I’m very excited to join the Winning Futures team,” said Shirley. “I believe that students need more than an academic curriculum to be successful. They need support from the whole community and Winning Futures brings that community to them.”
Shirley lived in Warren most of her life and attended Wayne State University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Master of Arts in Teaching. She has four grown children and is a scientist at heart, enjoying nature and observing the world around her.
