CORNERSTONE CHARTER SCHOOLS ADD NEW CAMPUS IN THE
GRANDMONT-ROSEDALE NEIGHBORHOOD
Cornerstone Health + Technology High School Set for Fall 2014 Move-In

Nationally recognized educational leaders, Cornerstone Charter Schools is adding another multi-million dollar campus to its portfolio. The Cornerstone Health + Technology High School will host its Ceremonial Groundbreaking Ceremony April 3, at 10:30 a.m. at 17351 Southfield Fwy, Detroit, MI 48235 (formerly St. Scholastica Grammar School).

The Cornerstone Health + Technology High School will call the corner of Outer Drive Blvd. and the Southfield Freeway its new home, and will be a part of an aggressive $10M investment. The project is scheduled for completion in July 2014 and is estimated to generate 80 construction jobs.

The Health + Technology High School utilizes state-of-the-art technology and resources to provide a personalized learning experience. Additionally, the school was recognized as one of Education Week’s “Top 35 High Schools Worth Visiting” (#6), received the “Promising School Designation” by Excellent Schools, and is the “Next Gen Learning Recipient” (Technology Innovatively in the Classroom category) by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The blended-learning model merges traditional teaching styles with a high-technology and independent-learning style. Students have opportunities to conduct job shadows and internships at the area’s top health and wellness organizations, among other unique experiences.

“We are really looking forward to breaking ground, making the improvements and being ready to serve the students of Detroit this coming Fall,” says Tom Willis, Cornerstone Charters Schools CEO. “Our innovative curriculum and teaching methods have shown to be quite successful for our current students, and we look forward to welcoming our new students.”

Additionally, the school will host a salad bar to allow students nutritious eating options. The salad bar, donated by Dole Food Company and Meijer, features a wide array of fresh fruits and vegetables, to boost new choices for students at breakfast and lunch. The donated bar is part of First Lady Michelle Obama’s broader Let’s Move! initiative to end childhood obesity in a generation.
