Location: Troy, MI – moving from Warren to Troy in July (Monday at office, Tuesday mornings at schools with afternoons at home or office, Wednesday and Thursday at schools in the morning and office in the afternoon, Friday work at home)

Hours: Full-time

Do you want to work with students, but not be in a classroom 40 hours a week? Join the Winning Futures team and help us prepare teens for success! This position is responsible for assisting in our motivational, workforce prep mentoring class sessions at three high schools, calling/texting our students to check-in each month, and completing office clerk duties. You will meet with program staff prior to each session, organize supplies and materials, manage program supply inventory and purchasing, build relationships with mentors, educators, and students, and provide support to the program department.

Through our evidence-based and structured Workforce Prep program, students throughout Metro Detroit are immersed in a multi-year experiential curriculum that begins in tenth grade and continues throughout college. The program includes in-class mentoring, life skills development, goal setting, job readiness training, and career exploration. With help from volunteer mentors and the business community, students are empowered to become self-reliant, employable, and productive adults. Responsibilities:

Serve as a classroom assistant three mornings per week at high school schools in Detroit and Harper Woods.

  • Set-up, clean, and breakdown classrooms.
  • Take quality photos of the mentoring teams.
  • Provide excellent customer service to students and mentors.
  • Attend student workshops at our schools.
  • Enter data into our CRM, a spreadsheet, and/or surveys.
  • Compile mailings, stamp and seal envelopes, and send through post office.

Support students in our one-on-one mentoring programs.

  • Contact students in your caseload each month by text, phone, and/or email.
  • Determine if they need additional support and work with program staff to provide it.
  • Ensure their monthly mentoring sessions are taking place.

Support program staff in the office.

  • Purchase and prepare materials for classes.
  • Complete clerical tasks, including simple data tracking in Excel, mail merge, and filing.

Support mentor recruitment.

  • Process background checks and complete reference calls.
  • Schedule potential mentors for interviews.

Other duties as needed.

Education and experience: This position requires completion of a certification program, associate degree, or higher, along with 2 years of experience working/volunteering in an administrative role that includes data entry and other clerical tasks or working with teenagers.
