Monica Schurg – Program Assistant

With a strong desire to help students find their path to success, Monica joined our team in October, 2024. As a program assistant, Monica helps organize classroom sessions for Year 1 (10th grade, life skills development) students and assists with other team projects as needed.

Prior to joining the Winning Futures team, Monica worked as a college and career advisor for the Michigan State University College Advising Corps. She worked with students to develop post-secondary plans and helped to break down barriers standing in the way of their success.

“Growing up I felt like obtaining a good education and career was almost impossible,” said Monica. “I was a first-generation, low-income student with little familial support. Without the support of school-based programs, I feel I would’ve never believed in myself, which is why I believe strongly in the Winning Futures mission.”

Monica grew up in Hazel Park, MI and studied Animal Science at Michigan State University. She currently lives in Casco with her husband Zach and her cat Kiwi. In her free time, she enjoys reading, crocheting, and participating with the local color guard.
