After several years of corporate experience in operations and logistics, Kathy decided that she wanted to merge her passion for community activism and youth empowerment with her occupational skills. In January, 2016, she joined our team as a classroom specialist, using her skills to strengthen organization and effectiveness in the classroom. In 2018 she took a new position, career program associate, and assists in the development, implementation, and facilitation of career and college exploration experiences, and workforce prep curriculum.
In her previous roles, spanning seven years between Daimler Chrysler, Exel Logistics and Kohls Distribution Centers, Kathy honed her organizational and leadership skills. As an operations manager and supplier development specialist, Kathy increased productivity and revenue for her assigned departments by increasing morale and creating new systems and standard operating procedures. These skills have continued to serve her well in the nonprofit sector as she creates innovative and effective ways to positively impact youth in her community.
“I consider myself extremely fortunate to work in a capacity where I’m able to help change the lives of students in a way that has potential to improve lives for generations to come,” said Kathy. “That’s an amazing opportunity and I’m blessed to do this work.”
Kathy grew up in Southfield, MI, and attended Michigan State University where she earned a degree in supply chain management. She lives in Detroit with her husband Bernard and their daughter Miyah, serves on the board of directors for the Grandmont Community Association, and volunteers for the Northwest Community Benefits Consortium and other Detroit community initiatives. Kathy is pursuing a Master of Arts in community based education from the University of Michigan-Dearborn.
