Cindy is a strong believer in the importance of education. Her passion for helping teenagers find their way in life is what brought her to us in September, 2015. As a program specialist, Cindy assists in the classroom with the planning, organization, and implementation of our workforce prep program at four Metro Detroit high schools.
A graduate from Wayne State University with a bachelor’s and master’s degree in social work, Cindy was a peer mentor for the social work department’s learning communities while working on her graduate degree. It was this experience, along with an internship at a shelter for homeless teenagers, that reinforced her desire to help teenagers and young adults identify their purpose in life.
Cindy is very thankful to work with students, mentors, and staff in the community to empower youth and promote continued education. “Being able to be in the classroom everyday and see firsthand how much our program impacts students is truly a reward,” said Cindy. “Motivating others is what motivates me.”
Sterling Heights has been Cindy’s home with her husband and four daughters for almost 30 years. Being around her daughters and their friends throughout their teenager years taught her a lot about the many struggles that kids nowadays face. Even in her spare time, she helps mentor college students. She also enjoys traveling, trail running, going to concerts, and spending time with her family and friends.
