Matthew Alexander, Student, Wayne State University
Winning Futures Class of 2017

Matthew was a smart kid who didn’t prioritize school when he was a student at Cass Technical High School in Detroit. His mentor Jack Dolan, executive vice president of the Americas at A2Mac1 – Automotive Benchmarking, inspired Matthew to pursue engineering and helped him see what was possible for his future. Together, they crafted a five-year strategic plan that helped Matthew get to college and focus on his education. Matthew currently attends Wayne State University where he is on track to earn a degree in mechanical engineering in 2020 and serves as treasurer of the National Society of Black Engineers student chapter. When he’s not studying, Matthew works as a structures engineering intern at Lear Corporation.

“Winning Futures taught me how to believe in myself,” said Matthew. “Knowing how to plan for my future and my goals – it’s helping me reach my full potential.”
